Yumiko shared how she personally overcame burnout using the seven types of rest and how important it is to fill your own cup first.
How to recognise a burnout?
- Feeling exhausted and empty
- Overwhelmed: too much emotional, mental or physical fatigue
Burnout - The cause
- Overload/overwhelm
- Worn-out/neglected
- Underchallenged
- Misalignment
You don't have to earn rest, it's something everyone deserves. Rest is for everybody, every day.

As Yumiko shared, there are seven types of rest. Every individual can incorporate the ones that resonate with you into your daily life.
Physical
- Passive: sleeping, napping
- Active: restorative activities such as Pilates, yin yoga, stretching, breathing and massage therapy
- Body scan meditation
Mental
- Pausing cognitive load and constant mental stimulation, reducing decision fatigue
- Digital detox, brain-dumping before bed
- Walking and daydreaming
Emotional
- Feeling safe to express and release your emotions freely
- Honest conversations with supportive people, therapy, crying, emotional journaling
- Dancing or shaking
Social
- Time with people who uplift and require nothing from you, or time alone if you're overexposed socially
- Time with emotionally safe people, saying 'no'
Sensory
- Reducing overstimulation from noise, bright lights and screens
- Quiet spaces, nature exposure, dim lights, eye relaxation, silence
Creative
- Reawakening wonder and inspiration
- Art & hobbies, nature walks, travel
- Doing something purely for joy
Spiritual
- Connection to something larger, purpose, community, nature or consciousness
- Gratitude, mediation, prayer, acts of service, reflection, time in nature
Heveya thanks Yumiko for this meaningful edition and for creating a safe reflective space for guests to explore burnout and begin restoring balance.
